Blog2014 ≫ In the week Rik Mayall died

I am remembering the only time I saw him 1, with Ade Edmondson on the first Bottom tour. Well sort of remembering, it was a long time ago. I know I definitely went anyway. I remember the mock chaos of it, I loved Bottom (the tv show) and it's pan-in-the-face humour, and this was added to on the TV show with lots of "oh no, can you believe it, it's all gone wrong" mock cock-ups, heavily scripted of course. I'd always been a big fan, from The Dangerous Brothers on Saturday Live and The Young Ones through Comic Strip Presents (Bad News was a massive influence on my musical tastes) through Filthy Rich and Catflap, Bottom, and then the appearances in my favourite show Jonathan Creek. Man he did a lot, he was more than just that cameo in Blackadder.

My great aunt died this week, so did my sister's cat, am I a bad person for not mentioning those first?

  1. Fairly sure that was the only time I saw Rik Mayall. There was another time in The Wag Club on Wardour Street where we were convinced it was him, maybe it was, probably not. That was always a late night.
