This is good 1, Clare is into cross stitch at the moment. She's on her second one, something a bit more challenging, I'm keen for her to try and cross stitch a photo or something, so this tutorial 1 is good for taking a photo and making it into a cross stitch pattern. I'd add another step here which is changing the image to indexed (Image -> Mode -> Indexed) and reducing the number of colours to match the threads you have.
This reminds me of the zx81 "Print and Plotter Jotter" that we had, for drawing out your zx81 screens on paper first, I think I still have that somewhere, I am quite the hoarder. ZX81 museum 2 has mention of it.
