Blog2020 ≫ New pub day

Had an idea to try a completely new pub today. When we were out walking the other day I saw a sign for The Lifeboat, over the East side of Folkestone. I remember hearing it is a real ale pub, and am always surprised a) that I've never been there and b) it is still open. I still don't know exactly where it is but thought let's explore, and go there on our regular Friday afternoon walk with a couple of friends. They are both working in the afternoon and also had a plan for one of them to drive to another pub that I've not been to and we always talk about, The Red Lion in Snargate (aka Doris'). So I'm going to take the long walk, find The Lifeboat, and then come back to meet them at about 6pm to go to the Red Lion. Win win!

Windy today. Clare has gone for a run but I don't fancy it, I do not like the wind. Maybe it is just because I need a haircut, if I had short sensible hair the wind would not bother me as much.

Gig anniversary, twenty years ago today was And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead at the Barfly. I loved it, I reviewed it 1 and I remember using this modern html to make a quirky review for popex. Not sure why it's not built properly for this site 2, hopefully will be fixed by the time you follow this link 1

Twenty-five years ago today Pimlico was released by David Devant And His Spirit Wife apparently. Slightly before I was aware of them, I didn't see them until 1996. I used to buy all the singles in 1994 and 1995 though so maybe this one just didn't make it to HMV in Portsmouth.

More important than that though, this message from the White Cliffs Of Dover. There is not a refugee crisis here, but the occasional refugee is being used to distract us all from the other disasters going on in the UK, Brexit, Coronavirus and the exams fiasco among other foul-ups. Embedding the video didn't work so watch A message from the White Cliffs Of Dover 4

Stayed up a bit too late last night. Took a chance on some new programmes, so we had recorded the new version of Magnum. While tracking that down I found a show called The Librarians. It looked a bit Buffy-ish, so gave it a try. It's not very good but I enjoyed it. Clare is slightly less forgiving but we'll give it another go. Likewise the Magnum remake, it's not great, but it's OK, we'll give it another go. After this watched six episodes of Bullseye... Another reason I don't feel like going running this morning.

  1. Removed dead barfly link here.
  2. Solved it in the end, I had an issue with filenames starting with a dot (full stop). Renaming the post from "...trail of dead" to "and you will know us by the trail of dead" sorted it.
  3. Removed old twitter.com/Britpopmemories/status/1296701207428440064
