Had a great weekend. Started early with a walk to the East Cliff Tavern. Just the short walk there, so 4 or 5k, rather than the long way round that we did last time. Always good beer in there (nearly always Kent Ales, it was Prohibition this time), and it's a proper pub, a bit frozen in time. From there to The Firkin Ale House, The landlord there asked me if I was the mystery buyer of The Potting Shed. I think just because I always ask him this, but maybe things have changed this time. I heard there were two competing offers for my favourite micropub. I don't think one of them is me, but my memory is less reliable these days.
On the way up to the Firkin we spotted The Curry Garden on Tontine Street so thought we'd come back there to eat. Then on the way back we were walking near Tofts, and I have wanted to go in since it reopened. Knew there would be no real ale but made my friend have a cocktail. It's a nice place, but it was very quiet. Then to the Curry Garden, good curry, ordered too much food, got a taxi home.
Parkrun I have already done.
Saturday and Sunday I watched quite a lot of Glastonbury. I really liked Coldplay, though I did not really expect to. Clare is right, what if I had gone to Glastonbury this year and been sniffy about the mainstream headliners and not gone along? I would have missed all that, including Michael J Fox. I did not trust Chris Martin's impromptu songs about members of the crowd, that must have been prepared earlier. My favourites of all though were Idles. I only tuned (to a repeat) in to see the Banksy migrant dinghy going over the crowd but the band, the set, the performance were amazing. I have looked to see if I can see them live soon but the dates don't work. They're doing Portsmouth, can't make it, and they're doing Margate the day before or after we are there. Maybe later in the year, but maybe not.
Getting nervous about election day, about politics generally. It's got to be a total wipeout of the tories hasn't it? It would be great if they can be beaten here too, though some places they will be safe. US politics is even more nervy, Joe Biden's performance against Donald Trump in the recent debate was a disaster. With this one move he is probably holding the door open from him.
Looks like something has changed on Garmin and even my step count is gone now.
