Had a HUGE day out with Fareham friends yesterday. They got here about 1pm in the end, taking a big old detour because of the M25 closure. I'd already dropped Clare and the boys off in Folkestone for another friend's birthday celebrations at their beach hut. We all walked into town, via the beach hut, heading vaguely towards the harbour arm. We had a booking at The Board Room in the afternoon but planning to go somewhere before that. We were originally aiming for the East Cliff Tavern, but had to pivot, because of the timings and the weather. We were slower walking there than I had hoped, and I stopped to talk to people on the way. First bumped into Gary from The Inn Doors, he was in town for another friend's birthday, and then stopped at the birthday beach hut. Only briefly, too briefly to speak to Clare and the boys who were cowering from the weather. Next stopped at The Mermaid as we'd have no time to detour to The East Cliff Tavern.
First big surprise here, suddenly another friend turned up. He'd been planning to come as a surprise all along, hadn't told anyone. He'd come down from London and had been planning to surprise us in a pub, thinking we'd have stopped in a pub by half two. He'd been in Folkestone and Sandgate, following us from a distance. Very nice to see him anyway.
We all went to The Board Room to play shuffleboard. Fun, but harder than it looks. Next to The East Cliff Tavern for real ale, my friends were not impressed with this place, shame. I did not really expect them to be, but I wanted to take them to places I like as well as impressive places. Next to The Champagne Bar on The Harbour Arm. The rain started about now, quite heavy, so we headed in to town. Then to Space Bar and here is where it gets a bit hazy. I think we had too many cocktails, nice though they were. Then to dinner, and then on to the Skuba, and then a taxi home.
My friends brought me a new hoodie to replace the one I lost at parkrun, very kind of them.
I'm up really early this morning, the news that Donald Trump has survived an assassination attempt. Think I should probably put that in quotes, though the would be assasin has been killed and so has someone nearby. Don't think that was anything to do with us.
Sunny and a moderate breeze, 10 - 19℃.
