Still no beetle, so took the "real" car and parked it in my usual free spot near the station. Clare walked up and collected it later. My first train into London for about three weeks. Is it still called commuting if I do it as infrequently as this?
Work fairly quiet, not many people in. Not everyone is adhering strictly to this three-days-a-week thing I think... Didn't take packed lunch so got a Tesco meal deal, though not sure I should add this to me spreadsheet type breakdown of costs.
I only worked a tiny bit later than I needed to, as when I booked cinema tickets I had to book it later than normal, which gives me a bigger chunk of evening. So I decided to break my weekday habit of not drinking, and went to a pub. I'd booked Gladiator II for 8:30, which meant even with checking into the hostel and getting a leisurely curry I'd still have an hour to spare. So I did these things and then walked round Islington looking for a suitable pub. I had thought about Chapel Market Tavern as it looks good and gets good review, but it's definitely craft beer and not real ale. Then thought something away from the main drag would be better, Camden Head looked good, and it was, even though it's a Greene King which I'd normally avoid. They had festive ales on, so I had one, it was OK.
My review of the film is much the same, it was OK. Some impressive scenes and quite good performances, but oh look, it's time for another fight. The film is called Gladiator and it is about fighting, so fair enough. But still, not my favourite film.
I had put "what film should I see" up for a vote at work, but Wicked eventually came out on top and I didn't really want to see that. So I Donald Trumped it and did not accept the decision.
Got back to the hostel about midnight, I had paid extra to be in a smaller room. The lights were on when I got back, but it soon got quiet and I slept fitfully. Woke at 7:30, back into work for shower. Saw flooding near the office, and there had been a leak in the building, but I missed this bad weather overnight. Another fairly quiet day. Got myself a pick and mix salad box from Ptooch for lunch, and then back home on an earlier train, where the car was waiting for me. Clare had dropped it off again. This works well!
Again I saved £80ish by not getting train tickets, then £23 this week on hostel, £11 on cinema, £6 on BEER! And I bought two lunches this time...
Commuting | Staying over |
---|---|
80 quid train fare | 23 quid hostel |
11 quid cinema | |
10 quid dinner | |
6 quid beer | |

More this week, the beer made it actually my most expensive week? Good dinner, good pub, got an extra free drink from work.
Sunny and light winds, 3 - 8℃.
