Had a funny with the xbox yesterday, no sound all day. My first thought was it was definitely Sonos, but it's only one hdmi lead to the tv, then optical from tv to sonos soundbar etc, and other sound sources work, including the TV. So it's either xbox settings, or hdmi lead. Unplugged hdmi lead and plugged in again and it seemed to kick it to life (we watched Batman Begins on it last night) but today same again. Going to try swapping out the lead I suppose.
I spent a lot of yesterday trying to get my music collection, on the network attached storage (NAS), playing on Sonos again. It was all fine until the Sonos software update, so it is definitely they. But it's not coming back. It could be that my neNAS is only sharing using an older protocol and Sonos now wants the newest one. But while fiddling I found I had never enabled Universal Plug And Play (UPNP) on there. I've only really used it for backups. But now that's enabled I can play content from the NAS directly on the TV, so that's good.
I think the whole concept of the NAS is probably way out of date. I've had this thing (a network attached box just containing hard drives) since T2 was born I think. It has two 3TB drives of music and films and backups of my photos. Looks like I stopped backing up my photos there about six years ago! I think I should probably just have a solid state drive plugged into the router, it would use less power and be faster. And I have them spare, I got one for recording off the TV that I don't use. So might just try moving all the music there.
I can't sit and do much of this today because Clare asked me to take T1 for a haircut (they went Friday, the queue was too big) and I said hmm I thought you were doing that? And I'm in trouble for that. So I have to look busy the rest of the day.
I have been busy this morning. Was wondering why our supermarket delivery hadn't arrived, and checked and found it was a click and collect, so had to race up there. Supermarkets unsurprisingly fiendishly busy today. Merry christmas.
