Blog2025 ≫ Day two, leak two

The plumber did not turn up, but, the original leak or whatever it was seems to have cleared itself up. Could it have been just the extreme weather blowing water upwards into some part of our house so it only came down the walls like that? Or are we perhaps haunted? I can find no source of this water. The water has been on again and so has the central heating, and those wet patches have all gone.

However I noticed a puddle in the utility room this morning, and then could see a gentle dripping from the main stopcock. I think that's the name for it, the one tap that controls all the water coming into the house. Ours is down at ankle level in the utility room. And it was dripping. I turned the water off again, but at this point I was going out for my run (yeah runuary day two done, thanks, up to Hythe, back along Princes Parade, pretty cold, but at least not windy) so I said leave it and I'll decide when I get back... And so before chasing up the original non-turning-up plumber, or calling a new one, I got my big wrench out and tightened up this tap. And it stopped dripping. I think when I was turning the water on and off during the other leak maybe I did something. Anyway water back on and no more drips for now.

No doubt we will wake up to a new emergency tomorrow.

At least tomorrow is pay day, which is nice, and there should be a week of on call money in there too. We are overdrawn on both accounts, and there's some work travel on the credit card to pay off too. We'll be well back in the black as long as nothing new comes in. Say, the garage calling me to say there's bad news about the beetle...

We're so confident that we're going to be back in the money that we're going to London for the day on Saturday. Not an expensiver overnighter, just a day trip. And not drinking so no temptation to stop in any pubs.

I did get some free Octopus Energy this morning 1, and there was a wet load ready to dry, but I meant to do a hot wash at the same time, and it was just the time the water was off and I was out running. So that's a no.

Cold today like I said, looks like colder tomorrow!

A clear sky and a gentle breeze, -3 - 3℃.

  1. Join Octopus Energy here and we both earn money.

runuary: Running at least 5k every day for the month of January.
