Blog2025 ≫ Some nice looking new display switches from Aqara

This looks great 1, a light switch with proximity sensor and a display in it. But it requires a neutral wire, which we do not have 2.

Aqara Display Switch V1 EU (4 Gang 2 Channel with Neutral), Smart Switch with LCD Display Screen

Visible Screen Control & Proximity Activation: ★The Display Switch V1 EU features a LCD screen can customize button icons, text size and colors, displaying each button's function, eliminating guesswork. The smart wall switch utilizes a built-in presence sensor to activate the screen as you approach, but also serving as an IF trigger for automations, creating a more interactive smart home. ★The proximity activation distance can be set to five different settings from near to far (★Note: These functions are only available in Aqara Home).

Multi-Switch Ability: The Display Light Switch V1 EU includes 4 buttons: by default, the left 2 buttons are electrical switches (controlling the wired load), and the right buttons wireless switches (can't control the wired load). All 4 buttons not only can be used as wireless switches but also can be configurable as on/off switches for compatible Aqara on/off devices, or as individual scene trigger.

It's a lot more than the switches I have been buying, but it does a lot more. Wonder if I can get the house at least partly rewired and get a neutral wire in there?

I did another little home automation update today. I tested my plan to use the wireless charging point in the study as an indicator that I am sat there at that desk, that works fine, it powers the laptop and the speakers now. I also made it so that when I turn the lights off in the study, if the phone is not in the charging position, then it powers the computer and speakers and extra screen down again. I have no "automatically turn the second screen on" as I don't really use it that often, so that can stay manual. For now.

  2. Spoke to Chris, he says "Just need to replace the cable from ceiling rose/light fitting to the switch with 3 core and earth", so it doesn't sound like a big job for a professional, and could be done on a room by room basis. I could have one of these in the hallway or the study in no time.
