Blog2025 ≫ Is Febrewery back on track..?

What is the rule when the headline is a question?. Febrewery is not really back on track, I'm really not trying, but I did actually go to two pubs yesterday. Was going to just go to the Potting Shed again, my favourite, but called a friend and he suggested going to Sandgate, so did that. Walked down to Docker with Clare after work and had one in there. It's actually nice, and the beer is nice, just different to what we expect from beer. Clare likes it a lot though, so this one was for her.

Then soon after my friend arrived Clare got the bus back to be in when T2 came back from a friend's house, and my friend and I (are you still following?) walked along to The Providence. Haven't been in since it changed hands, though I had noticed they had hand pumps, so looks like real ale... And it was good. Only one real ale today, but they say two on on Saturdays. The fire was roaring and the pub was full. It plays music and has big screens and a fruit machine and things, it is a normal pub. Spoke to the landlord he said he thought it was probably "too gastropub" before and what people want is a normal pub. Bumped into some friends from the old Inn Doors days and they say they have settled on this one as the new replacement. Micropub it is not, but normal boozer it is. I expect I'll be back.

The fire in the Providence. Perhaps roaring is overstating it...

Hmm perhaps "roaring" is overstating it slightly.

Walked home nice and early and had a pizza for tea and watched TV.

So my Febrewery list of 2025 so far:

  1. The Famous Ship Inn, Sandgate 1.
  2. The Potting Shed, Hythe 2.
  3. The Old Buttermarket, Canterbury.
  4. The Parrot, Canterbury.
  5. The Thomas Beckett, Canterbury.
  6. The Pegasus Taproom, Canterbury.
  7. The Unicorn, Canterbury.
  8. The Marlowe Theatre 3.
  9. Docker, Sandgate.
  10. The Providence, Sandgate.

If I were to include pubs Clare has been to, if we could tag team this, we would also have

  1. Farl, Folkestone 4
  2. The Beer Shop, Folkestone.
  3. The Pullman, Folkestone.

I am heading to yet another pub today, so that will be eleven! If it wasn't for all the not drinking in the rest of my week off I could have smashed this. No chance of completing this though, not trying. Not going to document this again I think, not going to treat it as a thing. Febrewery RIP.

  1. We didn't mean to but all the cafes were full.
  2. AND I went back again on Friday. I am not putting any effort into this challenge, revisiting the same pub twice.
  3. Yeah cheating here, but at least I did have a drink here.
  4. New Irish pub on The Old High Street.
