PaulyGigography1987 ≫ Madonna

Wembley Stadium Wembley, London

Just one day out of life!

My first proper concert. With support from Hue & Cry 1 and The Bhundu Boys, but not the rumoured Wet Wet Wet 2. My first concert, went with Lee, a friend from school, and some friends of his dad. Sounds a bit weird now. Got the t-shirt, programme, every bit of junk going... do I still have the t-shirt? Was an unofficial t-shirt from outside the ground, and I cut the sleeves off at some point 3.

The ticket feels like money. I'm not saying "it feels like it's worth something", It actually feels like a bank note.

  1. Now I am reading that Level 42 were the support for this whole tour, so did I imagine hearing Hue & Cry? Did I mix up the songs, and I have always thought I saw Hue and Cry when really it was Level 42?
  2. Just seen (in 2023)a Top Of The Pops from 13th August 1987 presented by Simon Bates and Peter Powell were they mentioned Wet Wet Wet supporting Madonna this week. They do specifically mention Leeds, which was the first date. So did they support at Leeds only? Great episode of Top Of The Pops anyway with Def Leppard and Motley Crue and Jesus And Mary Chain.
  3. I do still have the t-shirt, found it in the loft in 2024. Need to find some way of preserving it now, maybe framing it. Might do that with some of the others I'm unlikely to wear.

I attended this one, more from this year in my gigography for 1987. Part of every gig I was at from '87 to 2025. It's a natural step from my Best Gigs Ever weblog post. Yeah I know very nerdy, let's let that go though, I'm having fun remembering this stuff.

Tue Aug 18 1987

Other gigs at Wembley Stadium I attended are Def Leppard + Motley Crue (2023), Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert ('92), and Guns n' Roses ('91).
