Buried treasure (as art) in Folkestone

FG ≫ 2014 ≫ Buried treasure (as art) in Folkestone

Here in the Guardian, German artist Michael Sailstorfer has buried 10k worth of gold bullion in the sand of the Outer Harbour beach, Folkestone.

Someone on the guardian comments works out the bars must be 12g of gold each, that is pretty small. 1 tablespoon of sugar is about that weight, and gold is pretty dense, surely these will be about the size of a staple.

This stunt is part of Folkestone Triennial.

UPDATE: Guardian are live blogging it.

This is my site The Folkestone Gerald that I set up in a fury of excitement when I first moved here in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a while previous to that but I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site was updated more frequently with a calendar of events + voting for favourite venues + things, + I know it was a useful resource for those who were thinking of moving here. Now Iʼve moved out of Folkestone again (though only to Hythe) it doesnʼt get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is now becoming the exciting place we knew it was just about to. I am not Gerald by the way, this comes from a pretend paper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great arenʼt they? Do get in touch if you have something to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
