Or is it day nine? I have day eight in my brief dictated notes, but then I've lost a day. We did lose a day traveling though, so maybe that's it.
Up early, breakfast, and taxi to Woodlands for our train to Johor. Taxi driver nice and interesting, had similar advice about travel to the guide previously. He does not usually come to Malaysia, but says yes we should go to Batam tomorrow, and we can walk to the beach and shops from the ferry. Think I used up all my credit card transactions for the day on the vending machine at customs. We're here plenty early but just have to wait. Not allowed to do any photos or video here. Just had a proper downpour but it's settling down now. Big queue forming for train immigration. There are five steps to go through here; 1) train ticket and passport check, 2) Singapore immigration check, 3) Malaysia immigration check, 4) Malaysia customs check, 5) try and get on train. Very busy here now as everyone goes through this one central point even if driving or getting coach or taxi rhrough. People been a bit surprised we're doing this unguided as tourists, makes us feel like proper travelers.
We're through immigration easily and on the train. Now just waiting for it to leave. Rain is still drizzling down. At least I can take pictures now even if only of a crowded train. I think there are enough seats for everyone, though there are a few people standing by the doors. Trains are starting to move and we're going backwards. I was expecting it to go the other way. It's only about a five minute journey though. we have no idea where to go when we get to the other side.
And that's where I'll leave it for now, how exciting! Did we make it back from Malaysia? Well of course we did. No time to write this up now, lunch is over, back to work.
