Blog2026 ≫ Crikey, storm

Wasn't expecting that, massive damage round here caused by last night's storm. The main road between here and Folkestone is closed for three days. Big concrete sections of the seafront have been knocked over, and cars and vans were thrown across the road! To us it was just a bit noisy in the night, but blimey. I knew there was a storm incoming in the West, but wasn't expecting it here. Would not have liked to be one of the vanlifers down on the sea front.

Details here on the BBC with pictures of the flooding in Sandgate and the smashed sea defences in Folkestone. The A259 is closed from Princes Parade to Military Road (basically through Seabrook and Sandgate.

Did not fancy going out in that, knew I would be running on the beach, as the beach is now on the road. So treadmill again. Second fastest time this week somehow, when I thought I basically walked the first bit.

I should have been out being citizen-journalist today, could have taken some good pictures. But it was raining and cold and I was busy.

Trying to do security updates at work and as soon as I knock one on the head a new one comes up. Proper whack-a-mole stuff.

Wife is going out tonight, with her cousin, in Ashford of all places. I think her dryanuary 1 is over. Mine is going strong.

Hope parkrun is on tomorrow.

40Kph winds and heavy rain, 2 - 3℃.

  1. Not drinking for the month of January.
